Problem Statement

In 2023, TWELVE.XVI redefined modern fashion by emphasizing timeless aesthetics, eco-conscious materials, and inclusivity. While the brand’s digital presence and community events captured its mission of blending sustainability with artistry, translating these values into scalable, sustainable product designs posed a challenge. TWELVE.XVI needed a design system to maintain its commitment to high-quality, ethical production while appealing to a global audience seeking durable, versatile fashion. I was tasked with developing a cohesive product design strategy that embodied the brand’s ethos, integrating sustainable material innovations and modular design principles to ensure both functionality and longevity.

PROJECT GOALS

  • Develop a sustainable product design system that aligns with TWELVE.XVI’s core values of timelessness, inclusivity, and eco-conscious innovation.

  • Create versatile designs using durable, ethical materials that can be adapted across collections while maintaining functionality and aesthetic appeal.

  • Establish consistent design guidelines to ensure cohesion across digital platforms, physical products, and brand collaborations.

  • Integrate modular elements into the design process to maximize sustainability and minimize waste, catering to a global audience with diverse style preferences.

MY APPROACH

I aimed to integrate TWELVE.XVI’s emphasis on timeless design and sustainability into every product. Initially, I explored complex textures and intricate details to highlight the artistry behind the brand. However, feedback revealed that these elements increased production complexity and conflicted with the brand’s commitment to eco-conscious practices. I refined my approach by prioritizing clean lines, modular design elements, and sustainable materials, ensuring the products maintained their aesthetic appeal while staying true to the brand’s values of durability, versatility, and ethical production

FIRST ITERATIONS

My initial approach was to create bold, statement pieces with intricate details and complex material combinations to reflect TWELVE.XVI’s artistic identity. However, I quickly encountered challenges in scalability and alignment with the brand’s sustainability goals. Feedback highlighted the importance of maintaining the richness of the design while ensuring practicality and eco-consciousness. It was noted that the use of warm, earthy tones and sleek silhouettes resonated with the brand’s ethos. Taking this into account, I refined my designs, focusing on simplicity, durability, and sustainable material integration to create products that were both functional and visually compelling.

TYPOGRAPHY

For typography, I embraced the clean and timeless aesthetic of TWELVE.XVI by using Helvetica Bold in all capital letters. This choice creates a luxury, bold look that reflects the brand’s commitment to high-quality, modern design. The strong, minimalist typography complements the brand’s eco-conscious values while maintaining a contemporary and refined visual identity.

​USE OF DESIGN ELEMENTS

​Early iterations of TWELVE.XVI product designs focused on bold artistic patterns and intricate details, which sometimes overshadowed the brand’s mission to foster connection and inclusivity. To address this, I shifted the focus to creating designs that serve as more than just fashion—pieces that connect a community, bring families together, and provide a sense of safety and belonging. By integrating subtle textures, modular features, and timeless silhouettes, I ensured the designs could evoke creativity and individuality while symbolizing unity and shared experiences. Each product is thoughtfully crafted to reflect the brand’s ethos of inclusivity, sustainability, and community.
